As crazy as our lives are, you might be surprised to hear that at the root of it all, I love to live the simple life. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it fills every canyon in my heart with peace and I soak the moment in while I can. This weekend was simple. We had dance performances, scooter rides on Saturday night with the neighborhood crew, Sunday pancakes and church and family dinners, birthday celebrations, and grocery shopping. I loved it. I even got to capture it.
I believe that amidst the turmoil of life, the family is the core unit that needs to be kept strong to strengthen society. I think that because of how important it is, that’s why its so hard to create one, maintain one, and fight to keep one. Families are born out of so many different circumstances, and some go through a harder struggle than others to form and stay together. Some families navigate their way through divorce and infidelity, others struggle with infertility, many seek out adoption and others battles the loneliness of being single for what they feel like is far too long. New mothers sometimes deal with depression, the loss of a spouse can ruin the one left behind, or wayward kids leave parents feeling like failures and without hope.
But despite the heartache that can come, I believe that the family is worth putting every ounce of your heart into fighting for. I understand the pain in doing so can be so real at times, but I also know that the joy outweighs the deepest of pains.
Invest in your family this week. Make your home a safe haven from the world.
