Welcome back to The I Am Podcast! To preface today’s episode, I’d like to say that a big part of my healing journey has been learning to feel safe with myself again. I’m often asked how I feel safe with my body after my body has betrayed me and after I’ve gone through trauma. It has been a struggle for me to try to figure out how I can feel safe with myself again and that’s where today’s guest, Dr. Hillary McBride, comes in. Dr. McBride is a psychologist who specializes in trauma and relationships with our bodies.
In this episode, Dr. McBride will open up about what inspired her to get into this line of work including her own struggles with an eating disorder and her research on body image. Dr. McBride will also discuss embodiment, the way we often separate the mind from the body, and the importance of experiencing ourselves as a body. Last but not least, we’ll talk about dissociation, the way in which society often tells us our bodies are in our way, and what we can do to reconnect with our bodies which in turn, will help us connect with others. Keep listening to hear how Dr. McBride is helping others listen to their bodies. Enjoy!
